The National League of Cities and Florida After School (FAS) are excited to present the inaugural FAS Municipal Institute! This one-day event is for city leaders looking to support and increase access to afterschool programs in their communities. Afterschool program access is a challenge for cities across the country; mayors and other city leaders play a crucial role in shaping the landscape of afterschool programs in their communities through allocating resources, advocating for policies, and mobilizing stakeholders.
Mayors, City Managers, City Councilmembers, Superintendents, city staff, and program providers are invited to come together to learn about supporting sustainable afterschool programming in their communities. This special opportunity will feature sessions led by national experts, discussing promising practices, funding and system-building strategies, and ways that cities are expanding access to and quality of afterschool programs around the country.
City leaders are invited to bring one (1) partner to the Institute. Partners could include a school district administrator, such as a Superintendent; another city staff member, such as the Director of the Parks and Recreation Department; and/or a community-based organization leader, such as the Director of a local afterschool program. The partners should be those who will be collaborating with the mayor’s office to support afterschool programs in their cities.
